Staying home is the new going out for New Year's Eve in Romania

31 December 2012

Spending New Year's Eve at home will be the norm for eight out of ten Romanians, according to a study issued by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES).

The average New Year's Eve budget for the interviewed Romanians is between RON 100 and RON 500 (just above EUR 100), similarly to the budget they had for Christmas. One in ten Romanians plans to spend over RON 500 and up to RON 1,000 (some EUR 220) for the NYE party, while only 4 percent want to spend up to RON 1,500, and 1 percent, a maximum of RON 2,000. For around half of the respondents, the budget this year is smaller than last year.

Only 7 percent of those interviewed plan to spend New Year's Eve at a restaurant, and only 3 percent wanted to go abroad to welcome the new year.
