Steaua Bucharest's hopes of a home final end with Dutch defeat
Romanian football team Steaua Bucharest failed to qualify for the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League after an away defeat to Dutch team Twente Enschede in the second leg of the last 32 game on February 23. The defeat ends Steaua hopes of playing at home in the Europa league final, scheduled for May 9 in Bucharest.
Already 0-1 behind from the first leg in Bucharest, Steaua's task doubled before half time when Nacer Chadli (in picture, right) put the Dutch team a goal ahead, and 2 - 0 up on aggregate, after a mistake from Steaua keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.
Steaua failed to make an impression in the second half until the 78th minute, when Stefan Nikolic got behind Twente's defense, forcing Twente keeper Nikolay Mihaylov to make a save. At the end of the 90 minutes, a disappointed Steaua bowed out of the competition, losing 1-0 on the night and 2-0 on aggregate.
