Suceava airport in Romania adds new flights over the Easter period

The Stefan cel Mare International Airport in Suceava, in north-eastern Romania, will add additional flights on several routes for the Easter period, the Suceava County Council president Gheorghe Flutur said, quoted by Agerpres.

The routes that will see additional flights are Roma – Suceava – Roma and Bologna – Suceava – Bologna for the dates of April 13 and April 20. At the same time, a Milano — Bergamo — Suceava and return flight is available on April 17.

For its summer schedule, which is available until October 27, the airport added new, direct flight to Venice, Rome and Bologna. Regular flights to London and Milan are also available from Suceava.

The Suceava airport also plans to spend RON 10 million (EUR 2.3 million) this year on acquiring fire prevention and extinction equipment, and security equipment for passengers and luggage. The purchase will also include two stairs for the passenger boarding and disembarkation, the county council president said.

Flutur estimates that the number of passengers at the Suceava airport could exceed 250,000 this year. The airport recorded 13,000 passengers during the March of this year, ten time more than in the same month of 2016.

The Suceava airport services many destinations in Italy, a country where many Romanians live and work. According to World Bank data, some 1.08 million Romanians were working in Italy in 2014.

Last year, Romania entered the top 20 countries globally for the size of its diaspora, exceeding countries like the US, Turkey or Egypt.
