Summer storm causes injuries, takes down trees and billboards in Bucharest
A summer storm hit Romanian capital Bucharest on Thursday afternoon, as well as other regions of the country, causing injuries to 18 people, taking down trees, temporary constructions such as tents at a shopping fair, advertising billboards, and electric poles and wires. The strong wind felled 140 trees, which caused damages, mainly to cars parked nearby. Those who called the emergency number 112 reported 174 incidents, and as many as 650 calls to the emergency number were recorded within seven hours yesterday until late at night.
Across Romania, 29 localities in 16 counties were affected by the storm. The wind brought down 36 trees and 20 house annexes were flooded, but nobody was hurt.
Bucharest and other areas of Romania have been facing storms in the last couple of days, mainly during the night, and the one on Thursday was the biggest of all.
