Survey: Half of Romanians will spend the New Year’s Eve at home

About 48% of Romanians will spend the New Year’s Eve at home with their families, friends, and relatives, while only 9% have decided to spend the night in the city, according to a study carried out by German energy company E.ON in eight European countries.

The percentage of Hungarians who will stay at home is similar to Romania’s, but the share of those who plan go out on the New Year’s Eve is double compared to Romania.

In the Czech Republic and Italy, 43%, respectively 40% of the people questioned said they planned to spend the night at home, according to the same study. Only a quarter of the Germans (27%) plan to stay at home on New Year’s Eve while 20% will go out.

Some 30% of the Romanians said that they would watch TV on New Year’s Eve whereas only 9% of the Italians said they were interested in welcoming the new year in front of the TV. Some 14% of the Germans and Brits said they would watch TV on the night of December 31.

Some 4% of the Romanians said they have holiday plans for New Year’s Eve, whereas only 3% of the Italians or Hungarians answered that they would travel in this period.

About 11% of the Romanian respondents said that they wouldn’t prepare anything special for the New Year’s Eve whereas 30% of the Brits, 23% of the Turks, 18% of the Germans said they were in the same situation, according to the E.ON survey.

The study, carried out by E.ON and Kantar Emind, surveyed 8,000 people in Germany, UK, Italy, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Turkey, and Hungary in December this year.
