Survey: Only 12% of Romanians bought something online last year
Only 12% of Romanians bought something online last year, which is by far the lowest percentage in the European Union, according to Eurostat data. Bulgaria is second to last, with 17% percent of its population making online purchases in the last year. Meanwhile, over 80% of the Brits and Danes bought something online in 2016, according to Eurostat.
Romania is second to last in the EU for Internet use, with only 66% of the country’s population going online at least once in 2016. The country is also last for the share of Internet users who shop online, with only 18%, according to the latest Eurostat data.
By comparison, over 27% of the Bulgarian Internet users made at least one online purchase in the last 12 months.
In the EU, an average of 66% of the Internet users also shopped online. The first place in the EU 28 is taken by the UK with 87% of Internet users purchasing online, followed by Denmark with 84% and Germany with 82%.
