19 October 2015

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace has been in Romania in the past three months, where filming on her latest movie is underway. She is playing seven different roles in the sci-fi thriller What Happened to Monday? directed by Norwegian Tommy Wirkola. Famous American actors Glenn Close and Willem Dafoe are also playing in this movie.

Filming started in July this year in local film studios Castel Film. Several scenes have been already shot in Constanta’s old town, in Eastern Romania, and in various locations in Bucharest.

On Sunday, October 18, the crew shot a few scenes on the Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard, in downtown Bucharest, in front of the Italian Church. The traffic in the area was restricted for a few hours to make room for the 300 actors, extras, and crew members.

Noomi Rapace has been in Romania since July when the filming started. Willem Dafoe was also in Romania at the beginning of the filming period while Glenn Close has been here for about a week, according to Bogdan Moncea, marketing manager of Castel Film, quoted by Mediafax.

Several Romanian actors also play in this movie.

The filming should end on November 10 while the film should hit the screens towards the end of 2016.

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace achieved international fame due to her character Lisbeth Salander in the Millenium trilogy. She is also known for playing Madame Simza Heron in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus.

In What Happened to Monday? Rapace plays the multiple roles of septuplet sisters who live in a world where families are allowed to have only one child, so the sisters have to remain hidden. The sisters are named after the days of the week. All goes well until one day when Monday doesn’t return home.
