Romanian school competition organizers dodge taxes
Several school competition organizers allegedly dodged paying taxes worth some EUR 3 million. Over 200 police officers conduct several searches in Bucharest and seven counties on Tuesday morning, May 19, in this tax evasion case. The damage is estimated at EUR 3.14 million.
The searches target organizers of school competitions, who allegedly kept for themselves the funds collected from participation fees, haven’t paid their taxes to the state budget and registered fictitious expenses in the foundations’ accountancy books.
Some 80 searches take place in Bucharest, and Arges, Ilfov, Constanta, Giurgiu, Maramures, Sibiu and Buzau counties. Over 30 searches target schools, while the rest focus on foundations, associations and individuals, reports local Mediafax.
Several people are to be brought in for questioning at the headquarters of the Economic Crime Investigation Service – District 4.
