Telekom Romania could enter energy market, but not before 2018
Telecom operator Telekom Romania considers entering the energy market only after the market is liberalized, said Nikolai Beckers, CEO of Telekom Romania.
“The energy market in Romania is not yet liberalized. The market has no viable business model now. Maybe in 2018, when the market is liberalized, we will attack this segment,” Beckers added, cited by local Capital.ro.
He also said that if other operators have chosen to enter the market now, it was their own problem, referring to the telecom competitor RCS & RDS, which started the construction of an energy distribution network in several places in the country. Beckers accused the company of having no building permits for the network.
“If companies operate legally, then we can compete with anybody,” the Telekom CEO said.
