Three IT companies under EUR 35 mln tax evasion investigation

07 May 2015

The Economic Crime Investigation Department within the Romanian Police is currently investigating three local IT companies for tax evasion. It estimates the damage at EUR 35 million.

One of the companies is Scop Computers and another one is Romsoft, the former Depozit de Calculatoare, reports local Digi24.

The IT companies made deals worth hundreds of millions of lei through nonexistent firms to request the VAT back and avoid paying taxes. They prejudiced the state budget by EUR 35 million between 2008 and 2012, according to investigators.

In 2011, Romania’s Tax Authority ANAF seized their accounts.

The Police carry out the investigation under the supervision of prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeal.
