Timisoara airport to become biggest intermodal transport hub in Western Romania
The Timisoara airport in Western Romania will host the biggest transport intermodal center in the region, after EUR 82.2 million investments from non-reimbursable EU funds.
This center will connect railway transport, air transport and road networks. The project will include an intermodal freight terminal, and a passenger intermodal terminal, according to the airport’s representatives.
The investments are included in Romania’s General Transport Master Plan for the 2015-2023 period.
The European Union will also co-finance the feasibility studies for the new intermodal hub providing EUR 1 million, via its TEN-T program. The program’s purpose is to ensure the cohesion, interconnection and interoperability of the trans-European transport network.
