Timisoara hospital fined for offering poor conditions to patients

06 February 2018

Health inspectors have fined the “Victor Babes” Infectious Diseases Hospital in Timisoara for offering extremely poor conditions to patients.

The inspectors carried out a control at the hospital after photos showing the bad conditions in the medical unit were shared on social media, and then taken over by the local media. The images show paint peeling off the walls, rusty furniture, and sheets used to cover the windows.

“There were three fines, one of RON 5,000 given to the hospital, one of RON 1,000 given to a nurse, and another one of RON 600 also given to a nurse. The last two fines were given for inadequate waste collection, namely because there were no individual hygiene materials for patients in the sanitary groups. Also, any hospitalization in the two rooms with problems was forbidden,” said Dana Spac, the spokesperson of Timis Public Health Directorate, local News.ro reported.

After the photos from the hospital appeared in the media, the hospital manager and Timisoara’s mayor said the hospital is being renovated, and the photos were taken in some of the facility’s old rooms that have not yet been repaired.
