Romania’s ten biggest exporters generated 17.4% of the total exports last year, namely EUR 10 billion, whereas the top ten importers were responsible for 12.8% of the imports, according to data centralized by Ziarul Financiar.
The car producer Automobile Dacia remained the largest exporter in 2016. It was followed by a subsidiary of the Honeywell group, which replaced Rompetrol Rafinare. The top 500 exporters covered three-quarters of all exports last year.
Automobile Dacia was also the largest importer in 2016, followed by two oil companies Rompetrol Rafinare and Petrotel Lukoil.
More than half (266) of the largest 500 exporters from Romania were also in top 500 importers in 2016.
The local economy had almost 21,900 companies that carried out export activities last year, 300 less compared to 2015. The total number of importers was four times higher than the number of exporters.
