Romania goes after Russian tourists

27 January 2016

Several Romanian tourism and business associations are currently promoting local tourist destinations in Moscow through a joint pilot project called Discover Romania (Descopera Romania).

The promotion campaign will end on January 30, reports local Agerpres. The project involves organizing free info-trips on the Romanian Black Sea coast, the Danube Delta, and other tourist destinations for Russian tour operators. It also includes joint marketing and promotion campaigns and conferences in Russia.

The Tourism Promotion Associations' Federation (FAPT) and the Seaside-Danube Delta Association (ALDD), together with representatives of the Tracia Chamber of Commerce and Industry promote this project.

According to Corina Martin, FAPT president, some 6 million Russian tourists spent their holidays in Turkey and Egypt in 2015, and “Romania can represent an alternative given the current market circumstances.” Russia's relations with Turkey have become very tense after a Russian military plane was shot down by Turkey close to the Syrian border at the end of last year.

Romania aims to promote several types of tourist packages in Russia, from spa, leisure, business and active (fishing, hunting) tourism, to combined seaside-Danube Delta packages, holidays at the seaside or in mountain resorts.
