Tourists spend over EUR 12 mln during May 1 mini-break in Romania
About 99,000 tourists spent the May 1 mini-break in Romanian resorts, up some 9% year-on-year, according to the Romanian Tourism Employers Federation (FPTR). They spent over EUR 12 million on their mini-break.
“From our data, we can estimate revenues of some RON 35 million from food and entertainment in all tourist destinations in the country, given that a Romanian spent on average the same amount as last year, of RON 120, without including accommodation and breakfast,” said Dragos Raducan, vice-president FPTR, cited by local Mediafax.
They spent another RON 20 million on accommodation and breakfast, bringing the total estimated expenses to RON 55 million (some EUR 12.5 million).
Over 40,000 Romanians, almost half of all tourists, chose to go to rural areas in this period, mainly due to the reasonable prices and the opportunity to be in the nature.
Some 25,000 people spent the May 1 mini-break at the seaside, slightly more than in 2014. With an occupancy rate of 90%, Mamaia remained the favorite seaside resort.
Most of the tourists who spent the mini-holiday at the seaside were young people. Their favorite resorts were Mamaia and Vama Veche.
Around 21,000 tourists booked their holiday at one of the hotels in Romania’s mountain resorts. They spent RON 3.4 million (over EUR 770,000) on accommodation.
Only 1,000 Romanians chose the Danube Delta for this year’s May 1 mini-break.
On the other hand, 8,000 Romanians went abroad in this period, 7% less than in 2014. Bulgaria remained their favorite destination, followed by Hungary, Greece, Spain and Turkey.
