11 January 2013

The Romanian Traffic Police and the Romanian Auto Registry (RAR) are checking the road-worthiness of vehicles across the country up until January 20. The scheme aims to reduce serious road accidents by making sure vehicles on Romania's roads are up to scratch, according to Wall-Street.ro.

Specifically, the police and RAR specialists will verify braking, steering systems and lights, as well as looking for unapproved accessories.

A whole range of documentation will also be checked; the vehicle identification series, whether data included in the registration certificate matches the vehicle, service history and the use of winter tires.

If any technical faults likely to seriously endanger traffic safety are found, the cars will be impounded.
