Train delays in Romania due to high temperatures

Freight and passenger trains’ speed will be reduced by 20-30 km per hour on Wednesday, July 8, due to the high temperatures. which may result in train delays.

“The measure to reduce travel speed during certain hours when temperatures exceed the normal limits is mandatory for proper safety rail traffic and is applied by all railway administrations. It is important to mention that temperatures exceed 50-55 degrees Celsius at the rail level during extremely hot weather,” reads a statement of the Romanian railway company CFR.

Moreover, in such hot periods, the railway maintenance staff performs additional inspections on the entire rail network.

The weather continues to be extremely hot on Wednesday, July 8, especially in Arad and Bihour counties where meteorologists issued a code red for extreme heat, which means that temperatures can exceed 39 degrees Celsius.

In Bucharest, meteorologists expect a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius during the afternoon. As a result, the City Hall decided to install street showers in the capital.
