More trains to take tourists to the Romanian seaside, Danube Delta starting this weekend
Romania’s state-owned railway operator CFR Calatori launches the Sun Trains summer program today, June 12. Until September 15, 40 trains will take tourists to and from seaside resorts and the Danube Delta in south-east of Romania.
“CFR Calatori has prepared a special train schedule so that all regions are connected with the most popular summer destinations. The extra trains will go en route gradually according to departures/arrivals schedules, and for some of them, the routes will be extended to Constanta/Mangalia,” reads a CFR statement.
For the first time, tourists from Craiova will have a direct train to Constanta this season, while those in Brasov will have two direct trains. Most trains arriving to the seaside from across the country will have frequent links between Constanta and the other seaside resorts.
A Bucharest-Constanta trip costs RON 30.50 for Regio trains (R), and RON 62 for InterRegio trains (IR). A return ticket has a 10% discount and costs RON 54.9 for Regio trains and RON 112.4 for InterRegio trains (second class). If purchased with 21 days in advance, tickets have discounts of 25%. Moreover, the Minigroup 2-5 offer also brings discounts of up to 25%.
The Seaside Trains, part of the Sun Trains program, take tourists from Bucharest to Constanta in around two hours.
The Sun Trains program also includes the Youth Trains which will run starting June 18 as Regio trains with accessible prices. These trains will depart from Sibiu at 18:40, from Ramnicu Valcea at 21:02, from Pitesti at 00:55, and from Bucharest at 03:00. They will arrive in Constanta at 06:14.
In order to facilitate tourists’ access to the Danube Delta, CFR introduced an extra direct InterRegio train between Bucharest and Tulcea. Four daily trains from the usual schedule will link Medgidia and Tulcea.
Passengers can also transport their bikes from Bucharest to Constanta on IR 1985, IR 1582, IR 1587, and IR 1588 trains. The tariff is RON 10 per bike.
