GE and Prowind GmbH to build four wind farms NE of Romania
A 300 megawatt grid connection agreement between Romania’s Transelectrica, and a joint venture between GE and German wind farm developer Prowind GmbH, will pave the way for Prowind, a renewable energy provider, to build four wind farms in northeastern Romania, according to GE company. Windelcon, a Romanian company that develops wind projects will deal with the local development activities.
GE plans to deliver a total of 120 wind turbines, 2.5 to 100 series, made by the company for the four wind farms. The final planning, installation and commissioning of GE wind turbines GE has not yet been established, but shipments could begin in the second half of 2012.
The projects meet Romania's objectives to produce 24 percent of energy with renewable sources by 2020. Recently, the European Commission approved Romania's plan to provide incentives for using renewable energy more widely.
Nearly 500 GE wind turbines installed from the 2.5 series, mostly in projects in European countries, including Romania, France, Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy and Poland.
