TRW Automotive starts airbag production at new factory in Romania
American producer TRW Automotive recently opened a new airbag production unit in Romania, at Roman in the region of Moldova. The unit will employ 1,160 people, adding to TRW Automotive’s existing 3,000 staff in Romania.
By the end of the year, the factory will have a staff of 400, with an aim to reach the maximum staffing in 2016.
The investment in the unit stood ay EUR 13.6 million, out of which EUR 4.74 million was state aid.
TRW Automotive Holdings Corp, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, produces active and passive safety systems. The company ended the first quarter 2014 with sales of USD 4.4 billion, an increase of 5 percent compared to the prior year period.
With 2013 sales of USD 17.4 billion, TRW Automotive ranks among the world's leading automotive suppliers, it says. Headquartered in Livonia, Michigan, USA, it operates in 24 countries and employs around 65,000 people worldwide.
Its products include integrated vehicle control and driver assist systems, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, occupant safety systems such as seat belts and airbags, electronics, engine components, fastening systems and aftermarket replacement parts and services.
