Turnover in Romania's service sector goes up 4.7% in January
The turnover in the service sector increased by 4.7% in January year-on-year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The highest increase was recorded in the activities of tourism agencies and tour operators, namely 8.4% whereas hotels and restaurants recorded an annual growth of 5.9% in their activities.
The service sector recorded a decrease of 7.7% in January compared to the previous month due to seasonal effects, as December is a top month for service consumption.
Activities such as hairdressing and other beauty activities dropped by 40.6%, activities of washing, cleaning and dyeing textiles and fur (-18%), activities of travel agencies and tour operators (-11.9%), and hotels and restaurants (-11.6%). Gambling activities, however, recorded a monthly increase of 4.8%.
