TV sales to go up 40% in Romania this year

11 October 2016

The TV sales in Romania will exceed 1.4 million units this year, up 40% over the previous year.

The market has seen the best growth pace since the crisis. The advance was influenced by the drop in the VAT rate, as well as the World Cup event, said Lucian Radulescu, cluster head Sony Romania and the Republic of Moldova, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

In Romania, 100 households own 145 TVs, 81 washing machines, 75 refrigerators, and 70 vacuum cleaners.

Some 800,000 PCs and laptops are sold every year. Last year, the TV sales amounted to about one million units.

The biggest increase has been recorded this year on the C brand category, which generally includes cheaper models. Their sales have increased almost 2.5 times this year compared to 2015. About 560,000-570,000 TVs from this category are expected to be sold this year, said Radulescu.
