Two paintings by Romanian Adrian Ghenie on sale at NY auction this Tuesday
Famous Romanian artist Adrian Ghenie will be present with two paintings in Christie’s Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Sale, which will take place in New York on Tuesday, November 15.
One of them is called The Bridge and is part of the Lot 19 A. The painting, which is dated 2015, is estimated at USD 1.5 – 2.5 million.
“Adrian Ghenie’s The Bridge updates French Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte’s Le Pont de l’Europe, 1876, and Norwegian Expressionist Edvard Munch’s The Scream, 1893-1910, by painting a similar scene—the haunting figure of a man standing on a bridge,” reads the artwork’s presentation.
The second painting, which is part of the Lot 3 A, is called Flight into Egypt and has an estimated price of EUR 800,000 – EUR 1.2 million. The artwork was made in 2008.
In early-October this year, Adrian Ghenie registered a new personal record after selling Nickelodeon for USD 9 million the Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Auction organized by Christie’s in London. At the end of the same month, the artist sold another painting, Christ, at an auction in Romania. The artwork was auctioned for ten times the estimated price.
Adrian Ghenie is one of the most appreciated young painters in the world. He was born in Baia Mare, a city in northern Romania. The New York Times recently did an article on him, trying to find what makes Ghenie so successful.
