Two Romanian short films, selected for Berlinale 2011

Two Romanian short movies, '15 iulie' and 'Apele Tac' have been selected for the Berlin Film Festival shorts category – Berlinale Shorts 2011. The short film '15 iulie' (July 15), directed by Cristi Iftimie, is a 12-minute film that will compete with 24 others in the shorts category. Moments are recounted by omissions in the dialogue, not the images: in 15 iulie by Cristi Iftime from Romania. The 31-minute film 'Apele Tac' (The waters keep silent) is directed by Anca Lazarescu and is a Romania-Germany co-production. Two men from Romania want to leave their homes in a tale of flight from 1986: in Apele Tac by Anca Miruna Lăzărescu.

The Berlin International Film Festival will take place between February 10 and 20. The winners will be announced on February 19. Romania had two short movies in the competition last year: 'Derby', by Paul Negoescu and 'Colivia' (The Cage) by Adrian Sitaru. Romanian feature length movie 'Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier' (If I want to whistle, I whistle) won two prizes at the Berlinale last year: the Alfred Bauer award and the jury prize.
