Uber expands to fourth Romanian city

23 November 2016

Less than a week after the launching in Brasov mountain resort, popular car ride service Uber has expanded to Timisoara on Wednesday, November 23.

Thus, the service is now available in four Romanian cities, namely Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, and Timisoara.

The expansion to Timisoara was announced last week. The company said that the Uber app had been opened more than 3,000 times in the last six months from this city, showing the high interest for this service.

However, the fee per kilometer in Timisoara is the highest tariff practiced by Uber in Romania, namely RON 1.75. By comparison, the fee per kilometer in Bucharest is only RON 1.3. In Cluj-Napoca, the price is RON 1.7 per km, and in Brasov - RON 1.5.

All those who haven’t tried the app so far can enjoy a free first ride, in the limit of RON 30, if they make an account and introduce the code TIMISOARA.

With four cities and more than 140,000 users, Romania is the second most important country in Central and Eastern Europe for Uber, after Poland.

In late-September this year, Uber also launched its Scheduled Rides service in Romania after receiving many requests for this option from local users.
