UPC parent company Chello to launch new kids' TV channel Megamax in Romania

The European content division of Liberty Global, which owns cable provider UPC, also active in Romania, will launch a new niche TV channel in Romania. Chello Central Europe will launch the TV station Megamax, dedicated to children aged 7 to 14 years old, from October 18.

The new TV channel will add to Chello's existing channels Minimax, TV Paprika, Sport1, Romantica, MGM and Fine Living, all of which broadcast in Romania.

Megamax currently broadcasts in Hungary, with Hungarian-dubbed versions of popular cutting-edge animation from around the globe included in the schedule.

Earlier this year, Chello Central Europe launched TV Paprika in Romania. The company is the international content division of cable operator Liberty Global, which in Romania owns operator UPC. It runs 55 TV channels, some of which in partnership with companies such as MGM and CBS. Its revenues in 2011 topped USD 500 million.
