Private managers should run public companies, and these should be appointed without any political influence, he added.

American companies "realize Romania's potential to become a regional leader," but to fully achieve this potential, "Romania must continue to make progress in terms of business and investment climate," said Thompson.

American companies, like all businesses, look for a stable market, transparent and predictable, with clear and foreseeable costs and benefits, the US official said.
