The heavy rain in the last week has caused flooding in areas in Buzau and Vrancea counties, the same counties which were affected by the snow storm earlier this year.

Local authorities asked the Government to declare the state of alert so that additional funds are re-directed to these areas. Several villages in Vrancea county are already under a state of alert. Two villages in the county are isolated after the water destroyed the main road.

In Buzau county, 13 villages were already affected. The flooding also caused landslides.

Romania's National Hydrology Institute has extended the flooding warning until Thursday at 10,00.

The Code Orange warning was issued for the rivers Negru in Covasna county and for the Olt river, in Harghita, Braşov and Covasna. Yellow Code was also issued for the hydro basins Trotuş, Putna, Râmnicu Sărat, Buzău and Bârlad. The counties of Harghita, Braşov, Bacău, Covasna, Brăila, Buzău, Vrancea, Vaslui, Galaţi could be affected by the flooding.
