Washington Mayor proclaims June 24 the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse
Muriel Bowser, the Mayor of Washington, has proclaimed June 24 as the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse in the United States’ capital, in response to an initiative of the Romanian Embassy in the US.
The proclamation signed by the Washington Mayor shows that June 24 has been recognized and celebrated around the world as the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, and the Romanian Community in Washington will join in this global movement.
It also mentions the fact that “the Romanian Blouse has been an international symbol of the Romanian culture and a source of inspiration for some of the world’s greatest fashion.”
Initiated and coordinated by the online community La Blouse Roumaine, the celebration is an opportunity to promote a beautiful Romanian tradition, reads a statement from the Romanian Embassy in the US.
The Romanian traditional blouse, called Ie, represents an important part of the Romanian traditional costume. These unique blouses had inspired several fashion designers over time, such as Tom Ford and Jean Paul Gaultier.
