Century-old palace reopens in western Romania city
Palatul Apelor (The Water Palace), a historical building in the western Romania city of Timişoara, has reopened following EUR 3 million refurbishment works.
The works started in 2010 with funding from the national budget. The semi-basement and the attic have not been finished yet.
The building, which now hosts the headquarters of the Banat Waters Administration, was erected between 1898 and 1903. It sits between the city’s Elisabetin and Iosefin neighborhoods.
The palace is decorated with marine motifs, and its architecture is a blend of neo-baroque and ionic elements. Architect Lipot Baumhorn was in charge with the project. He is also known for designing the city’s Lloyd Palace, and over 30 synagogues in Timișoara, Szeged, Rijeka or Novi Sad.
