‘Wedding in Basarabia’ movie selected for the Montreal World Film Festival

The feature length movie “Wedding in Basarabia”, directed by Nap Toader (known as Napoleon Helmis) has been selected for the Montreal World Film Festival, which will take place between August 26 and September 6. The comedy, a Romania – Republic of Moldova – Luxembourg co-production, will be featured in the Focus on World Cinema section.

The comedy tells the story of a young couple – a Romanian and a Moldavian – who get married and organize the wedding party hoping they would get enough money to cover the down payment for a house. The film has already received the jury award at the film festival in Tallinn.

The movie will be screened in Romanian cinema this fall. It has already been screened at festivals in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Bucharest and Sighisoara. The film will also be screened within the Stufstock festival in Vama Veche, on August 18.

The Montreal film festival has selected movies from 70 countries and is one of the most importan film festivals in North America.

Napoleon Helmis (born in 1969, Topana, Romania) graduated the National Theater and Film's Art University in Bucharest in 1996, where he currently teaches film direction. In 2004, he made his feature debut with The Italian Girls (Italiencele, 2004).
