Weekend work or longer hours for public employees in Romania in exchange for extra days off during May 1 mini vacation
The two extra free days that public workers in Romania will get on May 2 and 3 will be recovered either on two Saturdays in April, or via extending the daily work hours until the end of April, the Government recently decided.
Public institutions will thus be either open on Saturday, April 13 and April 20, or have longer working hours during the week until they make up for the extra 16 working hours off.
The May 2 and 3 days off do not apply to judges and other types of personnel in courts involved in the trials scheduled during those days, however, Treasury employees are exempt.
The two extra days off after the official holiday on May 1 – a Wednesday- will turn the mid-week to end-week into a small holiday as Easter is celebrated during the May 5 weekend. The extra holiday is also available to private sector employees, but only if the employers' unions decide to grant the extra days off.
