West Nile virus kills two in Romania; Ministry of Health warns about mosquito bites
Two people have died from the West Nile virus in Romania, out of a total of seven people carrying the virus, according to the Romanian Health Ministry. The two people who died were 75 and 79 and had other illnesses as well. The seven West Nile cases were registered in Sibiu, Constanta, Galati, Dolj, Teleorman and Bucharest. Two more other possible cases are currently being evaluated. The West Nile virus is transmitted only through mosquito bite and is not transmittable from human to human. The Romanian Ministry of Health recommends wearing clothing with long sleeves and long trousers, as well as the use of chemical substances which can scare off mosquitos. The symptoms for those infected with the virus are fever, intense headaches, vomiting, abdominal pain, as well as muscle and rheumatic pains. People are asked to go to the doctor should they face these symptoms. The West Nile virus killed at least five in Russia, our of 116 cases of people infected. The virus was also found in Greece this summer, where it killed tens of people, according to Mediafax newswire. romania-insider.com
