Wimbledon 2015: Who will play for Romania in the first round?
Simona Halep, Irina-Camelia Begu, Alexandra Dulgheru, Monica Niculescu and Andreea Mitu will play for Romania in the 2015 Wimbledon first round, in the women’s competition.
Slovakia’s Jana Cepelova will be the first opponent for Romanian Simona Halep, the current number three in the WTA ranking.
Last year, Halep reached the semifinals at Wimbledon. However, she didn’t make it very far in two of this year’s Grand Slam tournaments. She was eliminated in the quarter finals of the Australian Open and the second round of the French Open at Roland Garros.
At Wimbledon 2015, Simona Halep could face Romanian Monica Niculescu in the second round, if they both pass the competition's first round. Niculescu, number 46 in the WTA ranking, will face Monica Puig of Puerto Rico in the first round.
Romania’s Alexandra Dulgheru (number 59 in the WTA ranking) will play against French Kristina Mladenovic (37 in the WTA ranking), while Irina-Camelia Begu (number 30 in the WTA ranking) will face Russian Daria Gavrilova.
Romanian Andreea Mitu and Olga Govortsova of Belarus will also compete for a place in the second round.
The 2015 Wimbledon Championships will take place in London, UK, between June 29 and July 15.
