Wizz Air inaugurates seventh base in Romania

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has inaugurated its seventh base in Romania, at Sibiu, on August 19. The company also introduced four new routes from the airport in Sibiu, to Nuremberg, Madrid, Milan Bergamo, and Munich Memmingen, bringing the total number of routes to six.

Wizz Air invested EUR 98 million in the new base, which also has a dedicated Airbus A320 aircraft.

The new flights to Nuremberg began on August 19, and will be operated three times a week. Moreover, Wizz Air will start to operate the flights to Madrid and Milan Bergamo on August 20, and to Munich Memmingen on August 21.

On Friday, August 19, the airline also started operating flights from Romania’s Suceava Airport to London Luton.

The first Wizz Air flight from Romania took off from Bucharest in 2007. The airline currently operates 119 routes from nine Romanian airports to 18 countries. Its local team consists of more than 600 employees.

The company is to increase its local fleet to 20 aircraft by end-2016, including four new Airbus A321 planes.

Wizz Air carried more than 4.5 million passengers from and to Romanian airports in 2015, up from 3.9 million the year before.
