Wizzair to start flights from Bucharest to additional destinations in Spain and Italy this summer
Low cost airline Wizzair has announced two upcoming new destinations from Bucharest, one in Italy and another in Spain. Flights to Perugia, around 150km North of Rome, will start on June 5, according to Wizzair. A day earlier, on June 4, Wizzair will begin its service to Girona in North Eastern Spain, in the country's Catalonia region, not far from Barcelona and the Costa Brava.
Currently, Wizzair operates 13 routes to Italy and six to Spain. Initially, two flights a week will depart to each of the two new destinations from Bucharest and according to Wizzair, prices will start at RON 93 (EUR 21 ).
Low cost airline Wizz Air carried 2.7 million passengers to and from Romania in 2012, out of a total of 12 million passengers across all its markets, the company recently announced. The result for Romania was similar to 2011. Across all its markets, it plans to increase the number of passengers to 13.5 million in 2013.
Overall, the carrier added some 47 new routes in 2012, while its airplane load rate was of 85 percent on average.
The low cost carrier Wizz Air runs a fleet of 39 Airbus A320 airplanes from 16 bases, and serves 250 routes. The company employs 1,500 people in Central and Eastern Europe.
