Workers unions prepare daily protests, May 19 and May 25 strikes

The decrease in state spending announced by the government has triggered the reaction of Romanian workers union, who have announced street protests and a strike on May 19. They are still discussing whether to organize a general strike on May 25 or organize street protests like those in Greece, according to union. Around 1,000 people will protest in front of the Government each day until May 19, when 40,000 people are expected to participate. Some of the Romanian workers union have also said they will go to court if the state will take the measures announced by president Traian Basescu. Basescu said late last week the state is planning to cut salaries in the state system by 25 percent and pensions by 15 percent.
