World Record: Longest lucky charm made by two Romanian-born designers

02 March 2011

Romanian-born designers Mirela Harris and Adrian Haiduc entered the Guinness Book of Records with the longest trinket or lucky charm (martisor): 584,6 meters. It was approved on Monday by the World Records Academy, according to the official website.

The lucky charm (martisorul) is made of pearls, red coral, agate, jade, crystal, glass, put on a string of lace and peacock and ostrich feathers. “I wanted to combine the Romanian tradition with art, to bring this tradition in my adoptive country, U.S.”, said Adrian Haiduc.  Mirela Harris added: “Because I left Romania for many years, I’m always trying to do something that will connect me with my family there”. '"For several years, at the begining of each spring, I am handcrafting these lucky charms which I offer to the Romanian community and to the new friends that I have here, in order to send them the joy of this Romanian celebration," Harris went on.

Adrian Haiduc holds another world record for “the highest launching of a jewelry collection”. Last year, he launched his collection of jewelry from a plane, where the paratroopers who wore his creations simultaneously jumped from nearly 1,200 feet.
