Japanese zipper producer YKK has closed down its factory in Chitila, close to Bucharest. The production hall was sold to a copy book producer. YKK will continue to work in Romania as imported and distributor. The factory in Chitila was opened in 2005, following an investment of EUR 8.5 million. The local factory was producing for the local market, as well as for France, Italy, Turkey and UK. The company also has subsidiaries in Poland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Austria. The managing director of YKK Europe is Nobuo Igarashi.
