Youth Olympic Games 2016: Eduard Casaneanu wins gold for Romania
Romanian athlete Eduard Casaneanu, 16, won the gold medal in the men’s ice hockey skills contest of the 2016 Youth Olympics organized in Lillehammer, Norway.
“This is the biggest moment in my career, my country’s first medal,” the Romanian said, reports Lillehammer2016.com. “I am so, so proud. It is an amazing feeling.”
Eduard Casaneanu got 14 points after six rounds, surpassing Sebastian Cederle of Slovakia – 12 points (silver medal), and Germany’s Erik Betzold – 11 points (bronze medal).
Lillehammer 2016 is the fourth Youth Olympic Games, following Singapore, Innsbruck, and Nanjing. Some 22 athletes have represented Romania at the Olympics, which will end on February 21.
