ZF: Romanians pay for milk as much as Germans but earn five times less
Dairy products and eggs sold in Romania cost a little more than in Germany and almost as much as in France, although locals earn five to six times less than the residents of these countries, according to an analysis by Ziarul Financiar quoted by Mediafax.
A liter of milk in a Romanian supermarket can cost EUR 0.8 – 0.9, which is a similar cost to that in Germany or France, while the average monthly salary in the country is of almost EUR 450, the second-lowest in the EU, after the one in Bulgaria, according to Eurostat data compiled by ZF.
According to Gfk Purchasing Power Europe 2016, the average nominal disposable income in Romania in 2016 was EUR 4,181, representing approximately a third of the European average, of EUR 13,672, and a fifth of the level in Europe’s biggest economy – Germany (EUR 21,879).
