A week-end of events celebrating the city of Timisoara, Romania
The inhabitants from Timisoara are celebrating 93 years since the entrance of the first Romanian troops into the city. The occasion will be marked today (August 3 ) with the unveiling of a statue of art critic Deliu Petroiu, on the Central Park Avenue of Personalities.
A number of other events are scheduled including a brass band concert and the opening of a painting exhibition dedicated to Timisoara Day.
Events will continue over the weekend in the historic center of the city, in the Operei, Libertatii and Unirii squares, as well as in Rozelor Park.
Timisoara Day is celebrated on August 3 to mark the entrance of Romanian troops in the city in 1919 and the establishment of the Romanian administration in 1999. Timisoara is one of the important economic and cultural cities in Romania. In 1753 the city's first theater opened, while in 1869 horse drawn trams began running on an eight kilometer route.
