Almost 7 million foreigners visited Romania from January to November last year
The number of foreign visitors to Romania reached 6.9 million in the first 11 months of the year, down 0.6 percent on the same period of last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics. Most of the visitors – 94.6 percent – came from European countries, and half of them from EU countries. Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany and Italy were the main countries of provenience for foreign visitors to Romania during this period.
Touristic accommodation places welcomed 5.6 million visitors in the first 11 months of the year, down 1.3 percent on the same period of 2009. However, most of the visitors were Romanian- 77.5 percent of them, while only 22.5 percent were foreigners checking into tourist accommodation.
As many as 9.15 million Romanians went abroad in the first 11 months of 2010, down 16.3 percent on the same period of 2009. Car transport was the most used, accounting for 84 percent of the traveling abroad. The biggest increase was in air transport, up 13.3 percent on the same period of 2009.
