Australian Open: Romanian Horia Tecau out of the men’s doubles competition, reaches mixed doubles semifinals
Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau and his Dutch team mate Jean-Julien Rojer, the main favorites of the men’s doubles competition at the Australian Open, were eliminated in the quarter-finals by French duo Adrian Mannarino/Lucas Pouille, on Tuesday.
However, Tecau managed to qualify in the mixed doubles semifinals. He plays in a team with American Coco Vandeweghe. The two beat second-seeded American favorites Bob Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
Horia Tecau is the only Romanian still playing at the Australian Open. He won the mixed doubles competition at the Australian Open in 2012, together with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and played another final in 2014, with Indian Sania Mirza.
He has never reached the Australian Open final in the men’s doubles competition. However, he played four finals at Wimbledon, one of which he won last year.
