Banks in Romania grant EUR 3.6 bln new loans in four months

09 June 2015

The local banks granted new loans worth about EUR 3.6 billion to individuals and companies in the first four months of this year, according to the Romanian Banks’ Association (ARB).

Romanian banks are looking for a recovery in non-governmental lending this year, after a long period of decline, reports local Economica.net.

In the past years, the bad loans clean-up process and loan repayments from clients surpassed the new financings granted by banks, which led to a drop in the overall loan balance.

The total loans granted to the private sector were EUR 47.5 billion, and the government loans were EUR 19.4 billion, according to data presented by the Romanian Banks’ Association. Bank deposits from clients totaled more than EUR 51.2 billion.
