Romanian lender BCR witnessed an increase of 29 percent in the volume of card transactions at retailers in 2010 and plans to grow this volume by 20 percent this year. Card payments for do it yourself and household products went up by 7 percent, while those for clothing items, by 8 percent. Supermarket products card payments grew by 12 percent, according to BCR. The number of transactions in gas stations advanced by 20 percent.

BCR runs a network of 2,000 ATMs and 18,000 POS units in Romania. The bank is part of Austrian group Erste.
