30 June 2023

The central Romania city of Brașov will host between July 3rd and July 9th the tenth edition of the Comedy Week festival.

The event is adding a new venue to its program, namely the Nicolae Titulescu Central Park, besides the Sica Alexandrescu Theater and Astra Cinema.

The park will host a series of performances, ranging from concerts, theater and improvisation shows to workshops and children’s theater performances. Singer Ada Milea will open the series of events with Apolodor, and the public will also be able to see the groups Fusion Core and Tapinarii perform. All the activities in the park are free entrance.

The film section of the festival covers 17 comedies, ranging from classical to Romanian or children’s films, to be screened at Astra Cinema. The program includes a Laurel and Hardy marathon, the Peter Sellers films The Party (1968) and The Pink Panther (1963), and Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator. More recent films to be screened are Marc Forster’s A Man Called Otto (2022), Philippe Lacheau’s Superwho? (2021), and Fernando León de Aranoa’s The Good Boss (2021).

Paul Negoescu’s Two Lottery Tickets and Another Lotter Ticket, Nae Caranfil’s È pericoloso sporgersi and Moldovan film Carbon by Ion Bors are also part of the program.

In their turn, children can see Zootropolis and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Access to the films for children is free of charge, within the available seating.

The festival also includes a photography exhibition offering glimpses into the lesser-seen side of various Romanian actors, as captured by Florin Ghioca. The exhibition is open at Sica Alexandrescu Theater.
