Bucharest District 2 City Hall creates 'winter hotel' for cars

29 January 2014

The Bucharest District 2 City Hall started offering 550 car parking spots for those who do not use their cars during winter. The new service is offered for free on a first come, first served basis to anyone who officially lives in the district, and is available in two locations: Caro hotel on Barbu Vacarescu boulevard, and at the Prodplast factory on Ziduri Mosi street, near the Obor market.

Those who park their cars there have to show their IDs with an official address in District 2, and to leave their car there for at least a week. This is a free service provided by the City Hall starting January 28.

These so – called 'winter hotels' for cars are an alternative for those who do not use their cars in winter, or who use them rarely, thus freeing up spaces for those who use their cars on a daily basis, and who are unable to find parking places near their homes, according to the District 2 City Hall.

Finding a parking place close to home is one of Bucharest's main problems. Local authorities are working on building underground car parks to free up streets and boulevards from parked cars.
