Bucharest’s new Uranus Boulevard to be completed by end-2013, says Mayor
The new Uranus Boulevard in Bucharest, which will link Victoria Square to southern Bucharest and will be an alternative to downtown boulevards of Calea Victoriei and Magheru, will be completed by the end of the year, said Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu.
The construction works on Berzei-Buzesti section are expected to be completed by the end of this month.
“The Berzei-Grivita intersection will also be completed and then we’ll install the tram lines,” said Oprescu.
“The traffic lights were installed, preparations continue, and we’ll open it for traffic by the end of the year”.
The project’s delay, of over two years, was mainly caused by the demolition of several historic buildings, such as Hala Matache.
The Buzesti-Berzei-Uranus street is one of the largest projects undertaken by the Bucharest City Hall. The construction works on the new boulevard started in 2009.
