The Carturesti book chain recently opened a 600 sqm bookshop on the first floor of Baneasa Shopping City in northern Bucharest.

More than 30,000 books, as well as a special selection of teas, accessories, and decorations are sold in the new shop. The value of the investment was not disclosed.

“Carturesti’s expansion in the northern area comes as a response to the many requests from customers,” reads a statement of the book chain.

Carturesti plans to open two other bookshops in October this year, bringing the total number of shops to 16. Carturesti has bookshops in Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara, Cluj, Brasov, Constanta, Arad, and Suceava.

Carturesti book chain was founded in 2000 by Romanian entrepreneurs Serban Radu and Nicoleta Dumitru. In 2010, the book chain had a turnover of EUR 6.4 million.
